Anwar Ridhwan : Accolades by Dr. Othman Putih

[On The Last days of An Artist] The writer’s ability to introduce Pak Hassan, a story-teller, into a modern novel is itself a pioneering achievement, and proved to be a successful one … Through this novel Anwar Ridhwan proves that he thoroughly understood and was able to grasp his chosen theme, and this ability is well balanced with good technique (Widya, April 1981). posted by NUR ALIAA ANWAR.

Anwar Ridhwan : Accolades by Solehah Ishak

With (Anwar Ridhwan’s) Naratif Ogonshoto, (Tales of Ogonshoto) I have been most fortunate (as translator of this novel into English) to have texts which has so many interesting stories to unfold and which were all told in such a wondrous manner. It seems that Anwar’s despair of the last, numbered days of an artist has now, in Tales of Ogonshoto become rejuvenated and empowered. Like the proverbial phoenix it has emerged from the ashes, stronger, more confident and certainly a force to be reckoned with. Anwar is the master pelipur lara (raconteur) who will regale his readers with such wondrous tales. Indeed it is not only the stories but also Anwar’s craftsmanship which forms an interesting and revealing study… I have also functioned as interpreter of Anwar’s post-modern text and as conductor of its cultural transferences. I hope I have succeeded in placing Anwar’s source language text in a new light, under new, broader, and challenging dimensions (Solehah Ishak, “Translator’s Note”, Tales of Ogonshoto (2004). Kuala Lumpur: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka). posted by NUR ALIAA ANWAR.

[On The Last days of An Artist] The story-line is developed step by step through the use of flashback, a source of strength for Anwar, the “story-teller”, until he succeeded to transform himself into a “modern story-teller”, an amazing achievement in bringing a traditional literary style into the modern literary world (Dewan Bahasa, March,1980). posted by NUR ALIAA ANWAR.

Anwar Ridhwan : Accolades by Victor A. Pogadaev

Naratif Ogonshoto (Tales of Ogonshoto) by Anwar Ridhwan is one of the modern literary works in Malaysia which provokes the great interest of the readers as well as the critics. It is traditional and simultaneously modern and international in nature. The author succeeds to change the character of literature as a mere story to make it as a drama of intellectual searching.
Archipelago Ogonshoto … , thanks to the talent of the author becomes a region where all the problems nowadays confronted by the humanity can be found : democracy, dictatorship, poverty, ecology, morality, cruelty, the role of mass media etc. And in spite of all symbolism and mystics of the fiction, everything which is happening with the heroes is fed by the reality of the world.
Tales of Ogonshoto can be considered as a warning against the future tragedy faced by humanity of the world, tragedy caused by the cruelty in the blood of the people.
This novel has the vital literary elements that can be considered for Nobel Prize (Victor A. Pogadaev, Russian scholar). posted by NUR ALIAA ANWAR
